Houston Methodist Academic Institute
Research interest: Cancer Biology, Cell Death Signalling, Tumor Immunology, Mechanobiology
Frank Chao-Yuan Chang is a postdoctoral researcher at Houston Methodist, where he investigates how regulated cell death and membrane signaling shape cancer progression and tumor immunity. His academic journey reflects interdisciplinary adaptability and a passion for bridging scientific and cultural boundaries.
Originally from Taiwan, Frank began his academic path in chemical engineering before transitioning to molecular biology for his first master’s degree. He later earned a master’s in biomedical engineering from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in Oncology and Cancer Biology from Technische Universität Dresden, where he explored how mechanobiological and immunological mechanisms drive tumor metastasis.
Beyond research, Frank is passionate about community building and career development. Since 2020, he has organized and hosted more than 100 academic and professional events, providing platforms that connect researchers across disciplines and continents. As Co-President of Project TYRA, he leads a core team of over 40 members and successfully guided the organization’s registration as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. His leadership has strengthened global networks linking Taiwanese scholars and professionals, offering mentorship, career guidance, and opportunities for collaboration.
Frank is committed to empowering early-career researchers to develop their professional identities and expand their horizons across academia, biotechnology, and beyond. Through Project TYRA, he continues to promote international exchange and build a supportive community that inspires young scientists to pursue their goals with confidence and purpose.
