Alumnus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing (USA)
PhD, RN
Chiao-Hsin Teng, born and raised in Taiwan, is the first in her family to attend college and pursue higher education. She obtained a BSN from National Yang-Ming University and an MSN from National Taiwan University. She earned her PhD in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the United States. Her research interests focus on cardiovascular nursing and rehabilitation. Chiao-Hsin aims to lead a multidisciplinary research program centered on how stroke survivors manage both short- and long-term sequelae. Specifically, she is dedicated to improving functional recovery, reducing post-stroke complications, and enhancing the quality of life for stroke survivors and their care partners.
After completing her doctoral degree, Chiao-Hsin returned to Taiwan to seek a tenure-track position at a research-intensive university. She is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the National Health Research Institute in Taiwan, where she conducts research among stroke survivors with Dr. Chueh-Ho Lin's team.
Outside of research, Chiao-Hsin is passionate about service. As a PhD student representative at UNC-CH from 2021 to 2023, she actively promoted the well-being of PhD students. Her initiatives included organizing sessions with a university health sciences librarian to teach doctoral students how to search for internal and external funding opportunities, hosting sessions with speakers who shared career paths outside of academia, and holding monthly sessions to help doctoral students practice presenting their research for proposal defenses and dissertation results presentations, all aimed at facilitating their academic success.
