Yi-En Hsieh (she/her) is a second-year PhD student at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto. She has extensive experience in the mental health field, particularly in working with family caregivers of adults with psychosocial disabilities (including those living with severe mental health conditions). Her research interests include critical discourse analysis of caregiving, caregiving during mental health crisis, group-based interventions for caregivers, social work supervision, and community-based mental health practice.

Before beginning her doctoral studies, Yi-En worked as a social worker and supervisor on a caregiver-focused mental health helpline project in Taiwan. Her master’s thesis examined the local practices and professionalization of family peer support in Taiwan. Grounded in both research and practice, she is committed to developing inclusive, relational, and participatory approaches to mental health support through critical social work research.
